Today in Congress Rep. Sherman called for a bill to ban all cryptocurrencies. This is the single best ad for Bitcoin that I have ever seen. Wow. This guy knows how to make us look good.

  1. [email protected] was so concerned about $crypto users using #cryptocurrency for deceptive and illegal financial activity, yet his top campaign donation came from a company that had to forfeit $13.3 million to the US Government for facilitating illegal gambling.” -from the Coincenter twitter feed.

Remember who these politicians work for and get on Twitter and let them know how you feel.

Personally, I find this attempt deeply insulting. As someone who was with one of the first units in Afghanistan after 911 and who has devoted years and years to the service of this government and its people, I am disgusted by people like this who so transparently take massive donations from banks and become mouthpieces for US hegemony and petrodollar dominance through bans, rather than meaningful marketplace competition.

If the US dollar is so strong, then it should be robust enough to participate in a global economy that is bound to be rife with competitive challenges in fintech…. such as Bitcoin. and others. If we, as a people, need to resort to BANs to protect the dollar from these, it is evidence to the *contrary*- that the dollar is weak, not strong. That which warrants bans in favor of it, is by definition- weak.

I strongly urge politicians and their millenial advisors (like the ones seated behind the Congressman in the video above) to stay true to your Constitutional principles and teach older politicians that in the global internet driven economy, banning only serves to isolate and weaken.. like AOL or Compuserve back in the 90’s. Creating walled gardens- islands of stagnant innovation that were doomed to fail because they failed to expose their systems to the world. The dollar is no different.

You risk turning ordinary, law abiding people like me into driven opposition to a hegemony of governmental bans. Because that is precisely what legislation like this would do.

There is room for both the dollar AND Bitcoin to succeed and prosper. What we need are politicians who seek to understand, learn and adapt.

  3. Actually the guy gets it!

This is a very interesting declaration because it shows some understanding of what Bitcoin is.

It looks like their position that Bitcoin is money for “terrorists”, “fraudsters”, “drug dealers” is changing. More realistic issues are being discussed.

This shows respect for Bitcoin. We are no longer considered a joke and a problem that can be swept under the rug.

    Let the games begin.

  4. That is seriously messed up. He is literally just saying, just putting it right out there that we need to ban bitcoin because the US Dollar must remain the Global Reserve Currency. What the fuckity fuck.

    *sigh*

  6. Is this guy a Democrat or Republican? I can’t tell the big government / deep state guys apart sometimes…

Edit: Ok just checked: He’s a Democrat. From California no less. Congrats to the California Democrats…

Edit(2): I love that they’re worried. It shows respect at a deep level. But let’s not forget these deep state bureaucrats like Rep. Sherman can wield incredible power, and if the USA were to try to ban cryptocurrencies, as ridiculous as it might seem, and as impossible as it would be to do in any complete way, it would be a huge blow for adoption and would set us back a lot. Let’s hope nothing like that happens.

  7. Just one little problem: any such ban would be a violation of the 1st amendment of the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution, the highest law of the land. The Supreme Court of the U.S. has consistently held that both code and money are protected speech. So, sure, go ahead and try to pass your silly law, but it will be struck down in the end.

  8. [Brad Sherman is the Democratic representative from California’s 30th district]( https://www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/contributors?cid=N00006897&cycle=2018), and he is heavily supported by the fintech/banking industry. So yes, he is deliberately misrepresenting cryptocurrency technologies because they threaten his largest contributors.

Fuck him, he’s a piece of shit. He doesn’t care about the American people or even about “financing terrorists”, he is too busy aiding the wealthy to further increase the financial disperity of Americans.

Edit: Thanks to u/F0rtysxity for the [link to the source.]( https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/bmow4l/today_in_congress_rep_sherman_called_for_a_bill/emyddjp)

Worth rolling it back to the beginning of his comments, and seeing the response from the representative after him. Glad to hear Sherman’s calls for *banning cryptocurrency* met by a reminder of the 4th Amendment rights concerning privacy, warrants and ownership.

  9. Holy shit are they even trying to hide autocracy at this point?

“Crypto will take all of our power away, pls don’t do it” I mean is this a joke

I don’t really see this gaining much traction, tbh. Genie is already out of the bottle and this next bullrun is likely to cement crypto as an institutional grade asset class, so good luck banning it.

  14. When your government wants to ban numbers to protect their inflationary fiat currency, time to exit that corrupt system. Didn’t think it’d happen in USA this soon but this will only make it stronger.

  15. If you see any clips of Sherman, I dare you to not think ‘slimeball’ or ‘scumbag’ at any point during the time his mouth is moving. It’s not even that he’s a slippery prick, he’s transparently so, to the point that anyone who’d support him would almost have to have their head in their hands to hear him speak.

He’s got all the charm and personality of a mini-mall lawyer and a 3rd rate used car salesman, and I have to speculate that the only reason he’s still in office is that he’s a good minion for the power brokers of the world that want alternative currency systems to fail so that their power can reign eternal. This fucker’s not even trying to hide it, in fact he’s announcing the decentralization of monetary power to be precisely what he’s striking against.

Fuck this guy, is basically what I’m saying.

  16. What a reprehensible douche. When the country began the government began its purpose was to defend liberty for the people. Now they speak openly of restricting liberty for the purpose of maintaining power over other nations. Pretty gross.

  17. “Our international power comes from USD being the standard unit of intl finance… USD is critical for major oil transactions”.

You know how the Feds are sticking their nose into other jurisdictions threatening to shut down access to dollar unless they cooperate? Well, crypto might seriously undermine their hegemony and this video is proof of that. In other words, oil companies and other billionaires dominating the world (and funding politicians to support their greedy endeavors) are really fucking scared. Controlling fucks who are destroying our environment, who turn our food and water into toxic poison, who are brainwashing populations into buying junk that they don’t need, who start wars, who are torturing animals to increase profit, are fucking scared of bitcoin. Good!!!

  18. I’m surprised it took the Bolsheviks this long to finally take the mask off.

Their fiat Ponzi scam is under threat and this is how they respond. Look for lots of stories in the media (more than usual) linking bitcoin to drugs, terrorism, etc… to help support this pro-bankster legislation.

I will admit I’m surprised they didn’t unveil this less than 24 hours before CME May futures expired.

  19. This is really incredible. He actually thinks it’s the governments job to make laws that assure the global power of the US, at the expensive of the rights of the citizens. The government should be protecting the rights of its citizens first and foremost. This guy is totally backwards and congress people should be fired for this shit.

  20. The purpose of Bitcoin not to “attack” fiat, that is never the objective here. But here purpose is:

“Purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution ” -Satoshi

If they want to ban crypto is surely because they are scared of what Bitcoin capable.

  21. Bitcoin is the first ever way for which the citizens of the world may lock arms against the corrupt powers that be. To take back what seemed impossible to take back. And to prosper in the face of the very ones who refuse to understand why we would fight them.

  22. So he admitted basically he’s bought and paid for.

Should be thrown out of office.

And as soon as more nations slowly drop the dollar, they will change their tune

  23. “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you. Then you win.”

Rep. Sherman has openly declared war on our liberties that made this Nation great, while at the same time revealing America’s greatest weakness – the full faith and credit of the Petrodollar. Bitcoin is about to enter a stage of growing pains that will be beautiful to behold. America is soon to reap what its sown, its flower being an orange tupee. Hold on to your buttcoins, Millenials. It’s gonna get nasty.

By the way, Bitcoin is in a bull market now. You might want to buy while it’s still 70% from the all time high, not when we’re at $40k. You wanna make change in your country? Hittem where it hurts. Their wallets. Put your money where your mouth is and vote in the best system we have to apply pressure to the corrupt bipartisan lobbyism.

  25. Someone can fact check me on this but I think this guy’s biggest donors are credit card companies. It’s going to do a big retrace soon and all these nobs will be cheering saying it’s dead, again. Then it’ll bounce up and these blowhards will come out again saying our Ponzi threatens the universe. Btc market cycles must be great for campaign contributions. It’s dead! It’s the worse thing ever! It’s dead! Worse thing ever!

Like my dog “scaring” away to postman every day, I’ll bet these guys think their yapping has some effect.

  26. You all are displaying a lot of bravado. Like, they can’t ban bitcoin.

But they can make it illegal to use. That means that no store, physical or online could use it. And that would drastically decrease its utility.

So the honey badger don’t care attitude is overplaying our hand a bit. IMHO.

  27. Why didn’t Jamie Dimone also testify with his usual smug face that he’s still not concerned at the least about this Bitcoin.

Why isn’t Congress deliberating over the ban of those private, exclusive clubs known as central banks? We already have the evidence how destructive they’ve been to economic prosperity.
